Description
Glowing in the evening sun, this lovely runner stands proudly over the Texas fairgrounds. Her name is Contralto, and she is accompanied by the handsome Tenor. At the State Fair of Texas, this shapely statue towers once again over the waters of the esplanade - what a beautiful site! They were originally created for the Centennial Exposition by Lawrence Tenney Stevens in 1936. The nudes were made of aluminum and probably melted down during World War II to help with war efforts.
David Newton recently re-created the statues as part of bringing back some of the missing history of Fair Park. Their installation was complete in late 2009.

Charlie, Yesterday I made a comment on the beautiful statue Tenor, today while selecting my Pay It Forward in the CFC group I came across the female version of Tenor, Contralto. Like Tenor you have managed to captured this fantastic looking statue perfectly with the glow coming off of the statue and a dynamic background sky. Excellent angle that this statue was taken at and with the hand coming at you it feels like it is about to try and touch you. Excellent capture and a great photo, voted, google and tweet promoted and as stated chosen as my Pay It Forward in the CFC group for today
