Description
Mount Errigal creates a stunning scene as it rises gracefully above the landscape. The celtic crosses in the graveyard, the lovely green valley, and the wide open countryside in northwest Donegal make this an iconic image. The mountain is called simply Errigal, or the Irish: An Earagail. It rises a dramatic 751-metre (2,464 ft) and is the tallest peak in the Derryveagh Mountains. It is near Gweedore in County Donegal, not far from the fantastic 16,000 acre Glenveagh National Park. Errigal is also the steepest and highest of the mountain chain, called the "Seven Sisters" by locals.
Errigal is well known for the pink glow, caused by an abundance of quartzite. It is a stunning sight, especially in the setting sun. Another interesting feature of Errigal is the ever-changing shape of the mountain depending on which direction you view it from. Climbers and hikers enjoy the climb, as well as a stunning view from it's summit.
