Description
Located at the State Fair grounds in Dallas, Texas, Tenor and Contralto stand tall at the east end of the Esplanade. His name is Tenor, and he is accompanied by a female counterpart, the lovely Contralto. At the State Fair of Texas, this grand statue towers once again over the waters of the esplanade - what a grand view! Tenor was created for the Centennial Exposition by Lawrence Tenney Stevens in 1936 . The nude was made of aluminum and probably melted down during World War II to help with war efforts.
David Newton recently re-created the statues as part of bringing back some of the missing history of Fair Park. Their installation was complete in late 2009.
