Deadeyes were used in the rigging of old sailing ships. This old deadeye rigging was found in Kinsale, Ireland. The name comes from their resemblance to the eyes of a skull. These old deadeyes were constructed from very dense, hard woods. As a result, these articles often survive well in the sea, and may be recovered by divers in relatively good condition.

This image is a collaborative effort by Charlie and Norma Brock, who work together as a team in their arts and crafts shop, Texas Eagle Gallery. They make their in home in Northeast Texas, but love to travel and enjoy the world around them. Charlie is best known for his works in photography.
